    DETECTIVES investigating a serious assault at a house are appealing to anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area to come forward. Officers were called to an address in Rowan Avenue, Ripley, at 11.20pm last Thursday following reports of an assault inside the house.     A SUSPECTED burglar has been arrested by police following calls from the public. A 49-year-old man was found covered in mud in a garden in Ripley at 4am yesterday. Police say they were called to the property, in Calke Rise, by residents saying someone was in the garden acting suspiciously.     A FORMER bricklayer who worked underground in a Derbyshire colliery died of an industrial disease, an inquest decided. Albert Leam, of Marehay, near Ripley, worked in the New Denby Pit from the age of 16. He worked there for 17 years, until the pit closed in 1967.
